Overview

The first days of life are the most fragile for a child. Yet, many newborns in underserved Nigerian communities begin their journey without access to basic care items or health guidance for their families. This lack of support contributes to preventable illnesses, infections, and even infant deaths.

Lumara Foundation Newborn Kits & Follow-up Program bridges this critical gap. We provide essential kits, breastfeeding education, and community-based follow-up visits to ensure every newborn has the healthiest possible start.

Impact Goals

Our newborn support program focuses on giving babies a safe start and parents the confidence to care for them.

  • Ensure more newborns have access to clean clothing, blankets, and hygiene items in their first weeks of life.
  • Increase exclusive breastfeeding rates through education and peer support.
  • Reduce newborn infections by promoting proper hygiene practices and safe care.
  • Boost vaccination uptake by linking families with clinics during follow-up visits.
  • Empower families with knowledge, resources, and ongoing community support.

What we do

Empowering young people and communities with knowledge, resources, and support to make informed reproductive health choices — breaking barriers, reducing risks, and building healthier futures.

Newborn Kits Distribution

Each kit includes diapers, baby clothes, blankets, soap, and basic hygiene items to ensure newborns are cared for from the first day.

Breast Feeding & Infant Care Education

Mothers receive guidance on the importance of breastfeeding, safe sleeping practices, and proper hygiene.

Community Follow-up Visits

Our volunteers and health partners conduct home visits to check on the baby’s progress, answer questions, and identify early health risks.

Strengthening Family Confidence

By equipping parents with resources and knowledge, we reduce anxiety, build confidence, and foster stronger parent–child bonds.
